ENVIRONS
Monte Santa Maria Tiberina can be seen from the house (see picture
below). Those fit enough can walk up to enjoy lunch at Oscari. The
“specialità della casa” is “tartufo”,
and well worth the walk. There are many different walks with wonderful
views that you can take direct from the house without needing to
use the car.

There is plenty of wildlife to be seen and guests regularly come
across porcupines (at least their quills), butterflies, cicada,
praying mantis and the harmless geckos. Nightingales and golden
orioles can be heard too at certain times of the year, and sometimes
Hoopoes appear in the garden. In May and June the fireflies light
up the darkness which is magical.

There is a tennis court in the village – ask at the Farmacia.
Further afield, Florence and Siena are one and a half hours drive
away. The ancient walled towns of Gubbio, Assisi, Arezzo and Cortona,
and the sparkling Lake Trasimeno, are all within one hours drive.
Perugia and Sansepolcro (of Piero della Francesca fame) are even
closer.
Excellent shopping is close at hand in the local village including
a grocer and a good butcher, or a short drive away in Città
di Castello and Trestina there are larger super markets to be found.
There is a selection of good restaurants in the area, and details
can be found in the House Book at Rancone.
